History

The CGi was formed in 1995 by 25 companies under the original title G-MEX.

At that time, the contribution to Island’s economy by the Finance, Horticulture and Tourism industries was generally understood and appreciated at a local level. However, the activities and financial contribution by the industrial sector was less well-known.

During this period, the States of Guernsey commissioned a report to study the structure and value of the industrial sector to the Island. This report concluded that ‘the sector makes an important contribution to the economy’ and recommended that it ‘can help itself by developing a representative body’ to:

  • Act as a forum to debate issues of current concern
  • Formulate a common position on key issues
  • Lobby States' representatives to adopt supportive policies.

So since, 1995 the CGi Committee has been endeavouring to fulfil these objectives and to encourage new members on board who value the support that we offer their organisations.

Now the CGi has over 100 member companies and represents over 5,500 employees which is approximately 17% of the Island's workforce.
