Guernsey Post has joined forces with Headway Guernsey to raise

£15,000 to support islanders with a brain injury and their families.

Over the next year, everyone at Guernsey Post will be working together to organise a series of fundraising events in aid of the charity.

George Jennings, Guernsey Branch Secretary of the Communication Workers Union, said: “Headway Guernsey is a very worthwhile cause. At Guernsey Post we’ve seen the lives of two of our colleagues shattered by a brain haemorrhage. We are really keen to make sure that they, and the other families like them in Guernsey, get all the help and support they need.”

Gordon Steele, Chief Executive of Guernsey Post, said: “It’s great to see the whole company coming together to support a cause it believes in and I’ll be rolling up my sleeves and joining in with as many of the events as I can. Like everyone else here, I am learning a lot about brain injury and its life-shattering effects from Headway Guernsey and I think the work they do is fantastic.”

Headway Guernsey launched in November 2006 and already supports over 40 people who have had a head injury, stroke, haemorrhage or brain tumour. The charity runs a helpline providing information and advice, plus the opportunity to talk to others who have been through similar experiences. Members take part in a monthly programme of social events, support group meetings and information evenings.

Shelaine Green, Chair of Headway Guernsey, said: “Everyone knows and loves Guernsey’s posties, so to have them, and all their Guernsey Post colleagues, on our side in such a big way is a huge boost for everyone involved with Headway Guernsey. We can’t wait to see what they are planning to do to raise the money – it’s bound to be a lot of fun.”

Shelaine Green and Headway Guernsey members have been getting up early and coming in to talk to everyone at Guernsey Post about the causes and effects of brain injury, what Headway Guernsey do and what Guernsey Post can do to help. Everyone at Guernsey Post has been asked to submit ideas on how they would like to raise the money. The ideas have been flooding in and include events that the public can get involved with. So watch this space!
