Official Response to C&E on Time Zone Debate
Further to my email to Jo Reeve and the forwarded correspondence from John Perkins of Specsavers which I assume you have seen, I am pleased to respond further on behalf of the Confederation of Guernsey Industry (CGi) on the above mentioned subject.
Following consultation with our members as well as considerable discussion within our Committee, our position is that the negative impact on the business and general community of Guernsey adopting Central European Time separate to the UK and Jersey far out-weigh the positive aspects of such a move. Furthermore, to even consider such a proposal without our main trading partner UK and sister island Jersey’s agreement or involvement would be folly to say the least. The detail that Mr. Perkins states in his letter mirrors our views.
It is therefore our opinion that the States should not pursue this course of action unless the UK decides to adopt Central European Time which would then be incumbent on Guernsey and Jersey to follow suit.
I trust that our members’ views will be passed on to our States representatives.
Yours Sincerely
Philip Duquemin
Chairman, CGi
