Judy Scott

I am the vice president and honorary treasure of the G.G.A (GUERNSEY GROWERS ASSOCIATION) and in this role I act as their representative on the CGI committee. I have been a horticulturist for the majority of my career and I am now the production director for CIP (GUERNSEY) LTD formerly known as Channel Island Plants Ltd. I am a qualified horticulturist having attended Writtle agricultural college in the late 70’s after having completed a local horticultural course at Guernsey’s college of further education.

After a brief spell at the Horticultural Advisory service as an assistant horticultural advisory officer I left to start my own growing business. The business has grown substantially and employs 6 permanent staff and 15 temporary workers at our peak production time. The company has recently changed ownership and is owned by a fellow director. We export unrooted cuttings of a wide range of patio/basket plants to the U.K. and we are now looking to increase our exports to the European market and this last season this accounted for 10% of our turnover.

I feel that higher education is an integral part of our society and indeed our future here in Guernsey. It is so important that our young people have skills and continue with further education be it locally or in the U.K. I am a local person and am involved in my St Andrews parish floral Guernsey group and I am very passionate about our community.
