Dave Newman, Chairman, said:
We are pleased that some restrictive elements of the Population Management Law have now been relaxed which should make it easier for local firms to recruit and retain staff.
Any changes that help to alleviate some of the labour acute shortages felt across all sectors on the Island are welcomed.
We would, though, re-emphasise that this should not be considered as ‘job done’; rather it is just the first step for both Home Affairs and the States to continue to work to improve the situation for local employers.
Progress is urgently needed in other areas including the provision of affordable housing, along with a speeding up of the approval process for short, long-term and 9/3 licences.
