Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 advice for businesses

We have been asked by the States to circulate the following information in relation to the Coronavirus.

This guidance has been produced for all sectors, but is particularly relevant to businesses whose staff travel internationally such as those who work in financial service businesses, multi-national companies or businesses that trade across the globe. It is also relevant to those businesses whose employees are returning to the Island and those who are contract or seasonal staff.

The latest advice from the States of Guernsey can be found here:

The latest Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice is here: Current advice is to avoid all unnecessary travel to mainland China.

As a reminder, business with employees and associates in mainland China who may be returning to the Bailiwick need to ensure that these individuals self-isolate for 14 days after leaving mainland China. If you have a staff member or client travelling from an affected country (see for a list of affected countries) and they become unwell then they should also self-isolate and contact Public Health Services for advice.

We know that the Southeast Asian region poses a risk for travellers but at this stage we are unable to be more precise about which countries pose the greatest and lowest risks.  This is because countries differ in ability to test for, and therefore, detect cases of the virus.   As a result, the Director of Public Health considers it prudent for anyone who has returned from travel in any area of Southeast Asia to be on guard for symptoms –even very mild symptoms; fever, cough or shortness of breath– and contact Public Health Services for advice if these develop in the 14 days after returning from travel.

To protect the Bailiwick and safeguard public health we need the public to work with us and we would ask that you share this information with your key contacts that may have individuals in mainland China or an affected country that are looking to return to Guernsey or Alderney.

Many thanks for helping to share this important information with your business colleagues.
